Things To Do: Christmas Tree Lane
Event Categories: December Winter EventsEvent Tags: December family tradition Fig Garden Village holiday photos
What to Do at Christmas Tree Lane
- Take the slow drive. Drive the full two miles at a crawl and take in the displays on both sides. The trip usually takes 20–40 minutes, depending on traffic.
- Go in your pajamas. Many families make it a pajama night. Bundle the kids in blankets with a thermos of hot cocoa and enjoy the lights from the car.
- Play “I Spy” with the lights. Give kids a list to find, such as:
- a snowman
- Santa and his reindeer
- a nativity scene
- an all-blue house
- a giant candy cane
- Vote for your favorite house. Have each person pick a favorite and compare picks at the end.
- Take photos from the car. Have a passenger take pictures, and turn off the flash for better shots.
- Visit the historical marker. Look for the marker at 4962 N Van Ness Blvd. It tells how the tradition began in 1920, when a mother decorated a tree in memory of her son.
- Make it a full evening. Stop for dinner or dessert at nearby Fig Garden Village, just a few minutes from the north end of the lane, before or after your drive.
- Bring your dog. Pets can enjoy the lights from the car too.
- Enjoy it in comfort. Because it’s drive-through, the lane works well for grandparents, people with limited mobility and anyone who wants a relaxed, fully visual holiday outing.
- Start a family tradition. Many Fresno families have gone every year for generations. Take a photo in the same spot each year and watch how your family grows.
